Illustration Friday: Whimsical

Here is my drawing for this week’s Illustration Friday challenge. The word of the week was “whimsical”.

This sketch – entitled “How to Survive the Flood” – was inspired by the image in which Winnie the Pooh shelters on a tree branch with all his honey pots for company.

I liked this drawing too.

IF: Bouquet

Aaah! This week I scanned my drawing too late to make it onto the Illustration Friday website. But that’s no reason not to share it here. So voilà my interpretation of the word “bouquet”.
I was inspired by a favorite movie, You’ve Got Mail. In this delicious classic, Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) speaks of bringing Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) “bouquets of sharpened pencils“. I find that image beautiful (I’m the kind of person who could spend half an hour blithely buried in the office supplies aisle).
Below are some sketches.

And here is my final sketch.

Illustration Friday: STAR

This week’s Illustration Friday prompt is “Star”. Here is my contribution — I’m early this week!

Illustration Friday: INK

Every week, Illustration Friday runs a fun challenge: they propose a word, and everyone sends in their illustration. Here is my contribution to this week’s prompt: INK.

Ink.

“Ink”. (Ink and pencil).

Below are some of my exploratory sketches.

Today, I also baked Early Grey cupcakes (yum), took a vibrant, colorful autumnal walk and reminisced about yesterday’s Great British Bake Off.

That House

This is my favorite house on the whole street. It has so much character.

It was just asking to be sketched!

I love how the window ledges shelter a mysterious collection of quirky curios : a lantern, an odd sculpture, a flowerpot.

Things I’ve Done of Late

Last night I got back from a short zap over to Berlin. The weather was very hot, the city was overtaken by football fans, and I had a nice time.
But here is a drawing I did before leaving, depicting some of my recent free-time adventures.

(I have drawn myself as a potato character, because this is Germany — a country where potato varieties are given girls’ names). DSCN9330bis

A magazine cover, tea, and lots of grey weather

Remember my saying ages ago that I’d drawn a cover for the college magazine? Here it is! The theme for that issue was Ecology. I wanted a theme-appropriate drawing that would not be too busy, so as to leave room for titles. As to symbolism, well, the concentric lines are open to many interpretations : tree rings, waves, the Earth’s layers, plain ol’ lines, etc. Around the edge you can spot a nuclear generator, Redwoods, and an elephant, among others. There’s even a Université Saint-Louis-flag!

Speaking of university, it’s exam time in Belgium (classes stop mid-December, with exams stretching all through the grey, blustery, cold month of January). There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, and I’ll get there — if administered enough chocolate and tea.

Seagulls Fly Amok

Last year, I took an Illustration-Comic Book class at the Académie des Beaux-Arts de Watermael-Boitsfort. Up on the class’ blog are some of my sketches from the project I worked on — a story about evil, greedy seagulls.

On the weather side, we in Brussels are enjoying an Indian summer. Not long ago, Mum and I took advantage of this to visit a very special garden… but more on that later!
